What is a sophisticated investor?

A sophisticated investor is someone who one of the following applies:

  1. Is or has been, in the last 6 months, a member of a business angel network or syndicate

  2. Has made more than one investment in an unlisted company in the past 2 years

  3. Is or has worked, in the past 2 years, in a professional capacity in the private equity sector or in the provision of finance for the small and medium enterprises

  4. Is or has been, in the last 2 years, a Director of a company with an annual turnover of at least £1m.
